About this project:

Top-down network thieves vs. security guards game.

Sneaky Bastards is a competitive multiplayer game developed at Nordic Game Jam 2014. The theme for the jam was “privacy”, so we decided to make a game about thieves and security guards.

The game is inspired by Monaco: What’s Yours Is Mine, but the difference here is that it’s a 2 vs. 2 game. It’s a network game where two players play thieves on one computer, while two other players play as security guards on a second computer. The thieves’ goal is to steal as much as possible, while not getting caught, whereas the guards want to find and disable the thieves. The thievesreceive points for each stolen item, but only if they manage to sneak back to their van and get away. When the round is over, the two teams switch roles and try to beat the opponents’ score.

Since the game is played on two screen, the two teams have to find/watch out for each other. The game makes use of a cone visualizing the players’ field of view, as well as a fog of war system.
